I Review: Sailor 85 Clothing

If you are a regular reader of my blogs (and I hope there are at least a couple of you- thanks Mum & Dad) you will remember in my piece titled 'Twitter v High Street Brands'. In that blog post I praised the power of Twitter for both independent brands and fashion concious customers. At the end, I gave three recommendations that were perfect examples of what I was talking about. Now I still recommend all of the brands but one in particular I have managed to continually interact with, be impressed by and purchase from- Sailor 85.

I was shocked to find out recently that all of this was just a nautical themed nascency only 6 months ago. By looking at the website or following on Twitter & Instagram, you instantly see how big & fast the reputation of Sailor 85 has become.

A big factor is obviously the designs. The range started with simple tees in fundamental black and white that displayed the simple, cool brand logo. What more do you need than 'S85' and an anchor to establish the identity and direction? The designs have increased in both detail and originality thanks to the talents of ATP Illustration being drafted in. The back piece on the 'Crossed Arrows' tee in particular is beautiful. Sailor 85 has grown from just tees with beanies, snapback caps, barrel bags and long sleeve raglans added to the ensemble.

To expand an independent brand like Sailor 85, though, you don't just need to produce an awesome range of garments. This apparel needs to be seen by people. Twitter, like I have said, is good for this to get your product to a vast audience but the best place for clothing is on a body! What I love about the promotion of Sailor 85 is that it is REAL. Pictures of the products being worn are of customers who have paid money and are so happy with what they have received they choose to share it with the world. There is a small group of us in the Twitter community that are avid fans of these products and can even be seen modelling on the Sailor 85 website!

The big testament to the quality of the S85 line is seeing the logo on notable people such as Calum Best and 'BooHoo.com' model Sam Eckhardt. Having your product being promoted by folks of this stature in the fashion world is nothing but a good thing for an independent label. The product will be seen by a heck load more people and that is guaranteed to bring in more custom and hype.

Considering both the timescale of this brand's existence and the popularity & exposure it has already built up, Sailor 85 has gone from an idea in the head of owner Craig to a successful business that I feel will do nothing but grow in popularity. As you can see from the picture below, I am a big fan and I guarantee that if you check out Sailor 85, you will be too.
